To the University of Miami Community:

Football Head Coach Al Golden asks ’Canes to support hurricane relief. This message will be shown at tonight's UM vs Virginia Tech game.

Our heartfelt concern goes out to those who have lost so much in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The widespread destruction has hit many in the University of Miami community, which includes thousands of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who reside in or have family and friends living in the storm-ravaged region.

Millions must now begin the daunting task of rebuilding their lives, neighborhoods, and communities. The recovery will be long and difficult, but we can help make a difference over the days and weeks in the aftermath of the storm.

Once again, we have teamed up with the United Way’s “Operation Helping Hands” to provide immediate assistance where it’s most needed in the Northeast. Our local United Way of Miami-Dade County will coordinate with its network to support relief and rebuilding efforts with those agencies already serving the hardest-hit areas.

To make a donation for victims of Hurricane Sandy, please visit the University of Miami giving website at www.unitedwaymiami.org/hurricaneshelp. Many of you have already made a gift to our hometown United Way campaign, and I hope that you will consider giving a little extra to help in the relief efforts.

We are a family that comes together in times of need.
