The College of Arts and Sciences and the Center for the Humanities will present the UM faculty panel discussion “Haiti: One Year After the Earthquake” on Wednesday, January 26 at 4:30 p.m. at the CAS Gallery. Panelists will discuss the impact of the 2010 earthquake and the local, national, and international efforts launched to support Haiti in the past year, as well as what can be done to help in the future. | more

Ring Theatre to spotlight timeless battle of the sexes with comedies ‘Big Love’ and ‘Lysistrata’

The age-old battle of the sexes comes to Coral Gables this February with two comedies at the University of Miami’s Jerry Herman Ring Theatre. Running in alternating performances from February 16-27, Lysistrata and Big Love are two boisterous comedies inspired by classic Greek theatre but spiced with enough contemporary flavors to tickle the taste buds of any audience. | more

    Honoring the civil rights movement
    The University of Miami’s United Black Students gave a history lesson to the UM community on January 18-19, converting an old Hurry ’Cane shuttle into the Montgomery, Alabama, transit bus on which Rosa Parks was arrested more than 55 years ago and giving tours of the bus while describing the chain of events that ignited the civil rights movement. The tours were part of the organization’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, a series of events co-sponsored by several other groups that will also include a community service day, leadership summit, and more.
