Nursing and Medical Experts to Discuss the Future of Nursing
With the U.S. Department of Labor projecting that 1.2 million replacement nurses will be needed by 2014, the School of Nursing and Health Studies will host a special panel discussion on Thursday, February 24 to discuss specific steps to resolve the nursing shortage and improve patient care across South Florida and the nation. The panel will include UM President Donna E. Shalala and a group of other nursing and medical experts. | more

Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies to Be Dedicated
The School of Communication will name the Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies at the University of Miami during a special ceremony on Wednesday, February 23 at 5:45 p.m. in Studio C. The new Herrick Center will provide support for motion picture research, facilitate the study and teaching of film at UM, and enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the University and the South Florida community. | more

Scientists Find New Way to Estimate Global Rainfall and Track Ocean Pollution

A study by UM scientists suggests a new way to estimate how much of the ocean’s pollution is falling from the sky. The new findings can help improve scientific understanding of how toxic airborne chemicals from the burning of fossil fuels and industrial power-plant emissions are impacting the oceans globally. | more
