Bascom Palmer’s Vision Van departed last week on a cargo flight from Miami to Sendai, Japan, where it will help ophthalmologists from Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo offer emergency vision screenings and treatments to people suffering eye injuries incurred during or after the Tohoku-Pacific earthquake and tsunami. | more |

With Earth Day only a week away, the University of Miami honored New York Times bestselling author and Miami Herald columnist Carl Hiaasen with the Reitmeister-Abess Center Environmental Stewardship Award last Thursday.
