UM encouraging faculty, staff, and students to help tackle cancer one mile at a time

With one of South Florida’s biggest bike rides a little more than a month away, the University of Miami is encouraging employees and students to don their cycling helmets and shorts and form teams to participate in the two-day Dolphins Cycling Challenge (DCC), which will benefit the lifesaving research and treatment programs at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. | more

UM to hold several events related to Dalai Lama visit

The University of Miami will host several events related to the return visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, who will speak on “The Quest for Happiness in Challenging Times” at the BankUnited Center on October 26. | more

UM phonebooks go paperless

Faculty, staff, and students will no longer have to let their fingers do the walking when looking up names and numbers in the University of Miami phonebook. As part of its continuing Green U initiatives aimed at environmentally friendly practices, UM will no longer print a telephone directory, instead having employees and students rely on the faster and more efficient UM website to search for names and departments from A to Z. | more

Representatives from the Office of Admission and Office of Financial Assistance will conduct information sessions for faculty and staff. Participants will learn about the UM admission policies and procedures for undergraduate programs as well as financial aid assistance that may be available. | more

    In what was the biggest housewarming party in its history, the University of Miami dedicated its new Robert and Judi Prokop Newman Alumni Center last Friday, cutting the ribbon to the recently completed four-story facility that is being called a home away from home for UM’s more than 150,000 sons and daughters.
