Hurricane Hoops History: Williams, Johnson Selected in 2012 WNBA Draft
University of Miami senior guards Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams have made Hurricane hoops history, becoming the first UM duo ever selected in the WNBA Draft. Johnson was selected by the San Antonio Silver Stars with the fifth pick in the first round, while Williams was chosen by the Tulsa Shock with the 17th overall pick. | more

    Sophomore Meera Nagarsheth has been named a 2012 Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow. The award is named for Frank Newman, one of the founders of Campus Compact, who dedicated his life to creating opportunities for student civic learning and engagement. The photo, taken by University of Miami student Kyra Hartog, won the “Best Student Entry” category in the 2012 Underwater Photography Contest hosted by the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. More than 700 images from 20 countries were submitted for the contest. | more

    Lactation Rooms Support Nursing Mothers at Work
    On Monday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m., the University of Miami will mark the official opening of its lactation rooms for nursing mothers with a ribbon cutting ceremony in the lobby of Gables One Tower across from the Coral Gables campus. The rooms, nine of which have opened in various locations across UM’s campuses, exemplify the University’s commitment to providing services and support for mothers and their infants. | more

    Weight Watchers at Work Returns
    The next Weight Watchers at Work session for the Coral Gables campus will begin Wednesday, May 2 at 12 p.m. Meetings will be held every Wednesday at Gables One Tower, Suite 950. As part of Well ’Canes, this employee benefit provides 100 percent reimbursement to first-time attendees for complete attendance, while continuing members receive a 50 percent reimbursement for complete attendance. | more
