In celebration of the centenary of the birth of controversial Cuban playwright Virgilio Piñera, the University of Miami’s Jerry Herman Ring Theatre and the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures will present five of his brilliant plays under the title “Absurd Celebration: The First International Festival of Virgilio Piñera’s Theatre.” The plays are produced by a combination of national and international companies and the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Theatre Arts. | more

    The Deem Team: Amy Deem Leads U.S. Olympic Women’s Track and Field Squad
    Amy Deem, who has trained NCAA, world, and Olympic champions as head coach of the University of Miami’s women’s and men’s track and field teams, had a most unlikely start to a stellar coaching career, arriving at UM some 24 years ago as an intern in the Athletic Department’s compliance office. Now she has reached what could be the pinnacle of her sport: head coach of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Track and Field squad.

A new University of Miami initiative gives employees and graduate students who bike to campus but are not members of the Herbert Wellness Center access to the state-of-the-art fitness facility’s locker rooms. | more
