Amy Deem, who has trained NCAA, world, and Olympic champions as head coach of the University of Miami’s women’s and men’s track and field teams, had a most unlikely start to a stellar coaching career, arriving at UM some 24 years ago as an intern in the Athletic Department’s compliance office. South Florida’s sweltering heat and humidity can cause anyone to sweat, whether you’re just standing outside for a few minutes or being “green” by biking to work. Unfortunately, a place to shower or freshen up is not always available. A new University of Miami initiative gives employees and graduate students who bike to campus but are not members of the Herbert Wellness Center access to the state-of-the-art fitness facility’s locker rooms. | more
