In a move to create a national dialogue for the humanities and social sciences, Miami Dade College (MDC), in collaboration with the University of Miami, hosted the Humanities and Civil Society forum on September 14 at MDC’s Wolfson campus. At the event, which was organized by the American Academy of Arts & Sciences’ Commission on the Humanities and Social Sciences, UM President Donna E. Remembering 9/11
The University of Miami community marked the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks last week. Held inside the Whitten University Center because of rain, the ceremony, which included remarks and a remembrance lighting, was among the thousands of services held across the nation to honor the nearly 3,000 victims who died in the attacks—at the World Trade Center towers in Manhattan, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
