Destination Fashion Raises $31 Million for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis
A $25 million gift from philanthropist Christine E. Lynn dazzled a crowd of more than 2,000 at the recent Destination Fashion 2012. Held at the Bal Harbour Shops and hosted by famed TV journalist Tom Brokaw, the event raised $31 million for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and featured a private concert by superstar Enrique Iglesias and an Emilio Pucci fashion show. | more

    Out of the Darkness Walk Sheds Light on Suicide Awareness
    University of Miami students and employees from all campuses joined nearly 1,400 “beacons of light” for the Out of the Darkness Walk, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, November 11 on the Coral Gables campus. Walkers joined to remember friends, family members, and colleagues they had lost, and to raise awareness of suicide and strengthen efforts to prevent it. | more

    An Evening with Stephen Root
    Many remember him as Milton Waddams, the meek, fixated worker in the movie Office Space who mumbles to himself and treasures his red Swingline stapler. But actor Stephen Root has played many other roles, and last Tuesday inside UM’s BankUnited Center Fieldhouse, he shared his experiences in film and television. The event included clips highlighting some of Root’s varied roles and a conversation with Henry Fonte, chair of the Department of Theatre Arts. | more
