UM Dedicates Kornspan Study Lounge

As students at the University of Miami’s School of Law in the late 1980s, Scott and Susan Fleischner Kornspan enjoyed interacting with undergraduate and graduate students—which was easily done with the law school’s location on UM’s Coral Gables campus. Now, the alumni couple’s generosity—combined with their belief in the power of an excellent education and their affinity for students from freshmen to post-grads has resulted in a new academic gathering spot: the Scott and Susan Fleischner Kornspan Study Lounge. Located on the first floor of the new Student Activities Center, the study lounge is open 24-7. | more

When Danielle Press was severely injured in a boating accident off Key Biscayne and rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center the afternoon of September 14, doctors weren’t sure she would live. A month later, she made medical history when Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital surgeons performed the world’s first nerve graft using a combination of Press’ own nerve and Schwann cells to repair her severely injured sciatic nerve. | more

‘She Loves Me’ Debuts at Ring Theatre November 13
Georg and Amalia are two feuding clerks in a European parfumerie during the 1930s who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals, not knowing their respective correspondents are none other than each other! She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance and nostalgia, though still as relevant today as ever. The play runs November 13-23. | more

New Art Exhibits
Two New Exhibitions Debut at the Lowe Art Museum
The Lowe Art Museum has debuted two new exhibitions in November. “Beauty Beyond Nature” presents more than 70 of Paul Stankard’s intricately flame-worked still-life sculptures encased in clear crystal from the Robert M. Minkoff Collection. “?#@*$%! the Mainstream: The Art of DIY Self Expression” presents 123 fanzines—self-published journals created by “fans” of anything from science fiction authors to bands to literary genres—from Special Collections at the University of Miami Libraries. Both exhibitions run through January 5.
