Homecoming and ’Canes Spirit Day Unite the U in Pride
Floats, fireworks, food trucks, and a resounding football victory helped make Homecoming and Alumni Weekend memorable for thousands of alumni, students, faculty, and staff. Reaching a crescendo on Halloween night with a pyrotechnics display, boat-burning ceremony, and parade featuring Hurricanes football great and cancer survivor Jim Kelly (top photo, with wife Jill) as grand marshal, the weeklong slate of activities included a Hurricanes Help the Hometown day of service, Homecoming king and queen competition, blood drive, and more—all under the theme “Animate Your Story,” which colored Disney’s Pixar Animation with ’Cane spirit. Celebrated across the University last Wednesday, ’Canes Spirit Day also heightened the excitement with such fun activities as a dunk contest that pitched Ricardo Hall (above), dean of students, into a tank of water on the Coral Gables campus’s Foote Green.
