Sea Researcher Lassos Internet and the ‘Marine Science Educator of the Year’ Award
David Shiffman, a Ph.D. candidate at the Leonard and Jayne Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy, is the Florida Marine Science Educators Association’s Marine Science Educator of the Year, an honor he picked up Saturday for using the Internet to educate the public about ocean science and reaching more than 500 schoolchildren, in person and via Skype. | more |

’Canes Film Festival to Showcase Student Works
About 100 short films created by undergraduate and graduate students in UM’s Motion Pictures Program will be screened at the Cosford Cinema May 2-4 during the 17th annual ’Canes Film Festival competition, which draws judges from the nation’s film and television industry. Big Data, the Internet, and 500-Year-Old Printmaking
University of Miami Gallery will preview Amalgam, an exhibition by MFA candidate Eddy A. López, who creates layered amalgamations of historical, mythological, political, and religious imagery with computer algorithms that he prints with old and new technologies, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, in suite 4 of the Wynwood Building, 2750 N.W. 3rd Avenue, Miami.
