Hot Bubble

Whatever You Care About, There’s a Group for It
The University is joining the ranks of top employers such as Google, Starbucks, and Disney with the launch of employee resource groups. ERGs are voluntary, member-led groups of people with common interests who meet in trusting, open environments. Launching this fall, UM’s ERGs will include groups for people with disabilities, LGBTQs, Asians, veterans, and millenials. Martha Mahoney to Receive Society’s ‘Great Teacher Award’
Law professor Martha R. Mahoney, who has championed women’s health, farmworker, and voting rights, written extensively about domestic violence, feminist theory, race and class, and created a class on the mortgage crisis, will receive the Society of American Law Teachers’ 2015 Great Teacher Award for her advocacy, scholarship, and contributions to teaching, legal education, and mentoring. | more |

Anthropology Students Help ID ‘Oldest Pieces of Human History’
Students who were invited with Anthropology Chair Traci Ardren to evaluate the Patricia and Philip Frost Museum of Science’s pre-Columbian collection helped identify six Classic Maya ceramic vessels from 600 to 900 C.E., all in excellent condition and one which they linked to Wak Chan K’awiil of Tikal, one of the most famous ancient kings. | more |

Miami Track and Field Earns Academic Honors
The UM track and field program has received seven academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Dakota Dailey-Harris, Jamika Glades, and Lea Johnson were named to the women’s USTFCCCA All-Academic team for the 2013-14 season, while Bassim El-Sabawi and Anthony Wolliston earned spots on the men’s. Both the men’s and women’s programs were named All-Academic Track & Field teams for earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher. | more |

Weight Watchers at Work August Session
A new 12-week Weight Watchers at Work session will begin Thursday, August 21. Meetings are held every Thursday at 12 p.m. at the Gables One Tower, 6th floor training room. First-time participants who attend every session are eligible for 100 percent reimbursement; continuing participants with perfect attendance can receive a 50 percent reimbursement.

Not surprisingly, the new Perez Art Museum Miami has many talented artists on its staff, including UM graduate Colin Sherrell, who will be among the museum employees exhibiting their work at the fourth PAMM Staff Art Exhibition at the University of Miami Gallery in the Wynwood Building, 2750 N.W. 3rd Avenue, August 5-30. The opening celebration is August 9 from 7 to 11 p.m. |
