Dear University of Miami Community,

Two weeks ago President Frenk invited the University community to review and comment on eight draft Roadmap Initiatives to build our future. We need many voices to bring the University of Miami into its second century. Starting today, each week we will focus on one initiative, summarizing the proposal and reminding everyone to read the consultative paper and offer their comments on the Roadmap Initiative website, through the hashtag #UMRoadmap, or via email.

This week we will highlight the 100 Talents initiative, a bold plan to retain and bring faculty talent to UM.

100 Talents Summary: In its continued commitment to excellence, the University of Miami seeks to add 100 endowed chairs to attract, retain, and reward outstanding faculty who have distinguished themselves through their teaching, research, scholarship, and creative work. This draft initiative includes proposals for examining the structure and management of endowed chairs, the funding levels for endowed chairs, visiting faculty appointment procedures, and faculty housing as part of a concerted drive to attract and retain faculty who will enhance UM’s ability to create knowledge that transforms the world.

Questions we have:

  • The proposal identifies key disciplines for this effort; are there others that should be included?
  • What kinds of visiting chairs would enhance research, teaching, learning, and the arts at UM?

See what people are saying about this proposal, and add your voice about this proposal here. We will host an interactive web chat on August 24th to answer questions live and submitted in advance. We really want to hear from you.

We must build our future together.

Office of the President
