to the web site of The Courtelis Center! Our center is part of Sylvester
Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami School of Medicine,
Miami, Florida. We are a multidisciplinary staff of professionals
who specialize in meeting the comprehensive needs of individuals, and their
families who are living with cancer. This web site provides information
about the services and people that you’ll find at The Courtelis Center
as well as information and links that may be helpful to you.
The Courtelis Center opened in 1994 with the benefit of a gift and fundraising efforts of Alec P. Courtelis, a former cancer patient and University of Miami alumnus. Our goal is to promote overall health and well being. Studies indicate that emotional well being and positive expectations enhance the body’s ability to fight disease and recover your health. The ability to reduce stress and depression, develop coping skills, and enhance quality of life and relationships can benefit healthy individuals as well as those who have a medical disease, disorder, or disability. Through our affiliation with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, we specialize in the treatment of individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and their families. Our treatment strategies help persons with cancer regain control of their lives despite the effects of their illness and its consequences. The Courtelis Center is also
dedicated to the study of the mind-body relationship and its impact on
health, disease prevention, and recovery. Research projects, in collaboration
with the medical sciences, seek to identify psychosocial factors and treatment
interventions that influence a person’s health and well being. Index

Services are available to Sylvester patients and patients receiving treatment elsewhere. Youdo not need to be a cancer patient or have a medical disorder to utilize our services. To make an appointment, please call (305) 243-4129. Index 
Most of our group services are free-of-charge. Coverage of our individual services varies by insurance/HMO plan. When you call to make an appointment, we can obtain information on your insurance coverage and process verification of your benefits prior to your appointment. Index 
The Courtelis Center is located in University of Miami Hospital & Clinics (UMHC), Suite 2090, second floor. A map of the Medical School campus can be found here. Convenient valet and self-parking is available at:
Transportation from Dade,
Broward, and Palm Beach Counties is available to UM/Sylvester patients
for a nominal fee, including one-way or round-trip transportation for you
and a companion. To make transportation arrangements, please call
(305) 243-4342 at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.
