Corals, Canaries of the Sea?

Wednesday, March 19

Rosenstiel School Auditorium, Virginia Key

A well-respected marine geologist, Dr. Philip Kramer will discuss his ongoing research as part of the 2008 Sea Secrets lecture series on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 6 p.m. He has extensive knowledge of Atlantic tropical marine ecosystems and has published on coral reefs and the use of remote sensing and geospatial information to address large-scale ecological and conservation issues. Kramer completed his undergraduate degrees in general biology from the University of California in San Diego and a Ph.D. in tropical marine geology from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School. With research projects on standard ways to monitor coral health to restore especially hard-hit local coral populations areas, Kramer and his colleagues are finding innovative new ways to help us understand and better protect our precious reefs.

The lecture will take place in the Rosenstiel School Auditorium, 4600 Rickenbacker Causeway, Virginia Key.  The event is free and open to the public, and includes a reception at 5:30 p.m.
