TAKE THE FAMILY ON "AN EGYPTIAN ADVENTURE"
Sunday, July 27
Lowe Art Museum
Join puppeteer Frank Lakus on an Egyptian Adventure at the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami, on Sunday, July 27 at 2 p.m. Hear the story of a wacky archaeologist in search of the tomb of Pharaoh Amassis and enjoy art activities with the family.
"An Egyptian Adventure" begins with a visit to an Egyptian Bazaar in search of clues to the location of a lost tomb. Puppeteer and storyteller Frank Lakus portrays a wacky archaeologist in search of the tomb of Pharaoh Amassis-the real ruler of Egypt. Examining the various articles for sale in the market allows the audience to learn a little about life in ancient Egypt. The discovery of carved cartouches on the stone walls of the set lead to the “opening” of a detailed burial tomb complete with wall paintings, carving, statues and a few more surprises. A rollicking dance by a marionette mummy lightens the tone. Talking stone status narrate the shadow-puppet visualization of the story, The Egyptian Cinderella, the earliest recorded version of the rags-to-riches story.
Art activities include origami pyramids and making "Mummy-Dolls". Recommended for children ages 4 and up. Cost is $5 per person and free to Lowe members.
