Tamer BaşarDr. Tamer Basar, Swanlund Endowed Chair at the center for Advanced Study Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Professor at the Coordinated Science Laboratory; at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will present "Confluence of Networks, Games, and Economics". Basar will discuss the role of game theory and economics in the design of networks, that include computer, communication, and social networks. He will dwell on the concepts, methodologies, and tools that led to the recent convergence of what used to be disparate fields — of networks, games, and economics. His presentation is scheduled for Monday, February 4, 2013 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the McArthur Engineering Annex, Room MEA202. Classics Symposion

This multifaceted event centered on ancient Greek culture features varied activities inspired by the Lowe Art Museum's magnificent Greek calyx-krater (an ancient vessel used to mix water and wine), which features a painting of Dionysos and his retinue of thiasos (revelers). Events will include a reception at the Lowe; the performance of Clouds, an ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes; and a Classics Symposium. Presentations at the symposium, designed to be accessible to a general audience, will address a range of topics relevant to the krater, such as ancient religious practices, Greek mythology, ancient drinking parties, ancient Greek tragedy, archaeology, and museum displays of ancient objects. The University of Miami Sports Coaching Certificate Program satisfies standards created by the Florida Department of Education for a 5-Year Athletic Coaching Certificate. This program also follows the standards created by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). This national organization provides benchmarks and guidelines for what coaches should know, and be able to do. These benchmarks are clearly defined in eight comprehensive domains, which include:

January 25 - 27 A ROYAL AFFAIR — Erotic, political, beautiful, treacherous. This year's Golden Globe winner for "Best Foreign Picture," A Royal Affair is a period piece that enraptures the senses and mind. The true story of an ordinary man who wins the queen's heart and starts a revolution, the film centers on the intriguing love triangle between the insane Danish King Christian VII, Struensee, the royal physician who is a man of enlightenment and idealism, and Queen Caroline Mathilda , the young but strong monarch. "FIRST RATE. Ever so much more than a historical romance," raves Roger Ebert, of the Chicago Sun-Times. A Royal Affair screens Friday, January 25 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, January 26 at 2 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 7 p.m.

January 26 LOOPERLooper takes place in the year 2074, where time travel has been outlawed, used only by the mob to send assassination targets thirty years into the past, to be killed by assassins known as "loopers." In 2044, Joe, a looper, encounters a problem when he recognizes his future self as one of his targets. Looper stars Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Emily Blunt. Looper screens Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10 p.m.

UM vs. DukeThe University of Miami welcomes No. 1 Duke to the BankUnited Center on Wednesday, January 23 at 7 p.m. The Canes look to improve on their 4-0 record in ACC play, and accomplish something that has never been done, defeat a No. 1 opponent.

Miami is 3-15 against Duke in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1961-62 season. Miami last faced Duke on February 5, 2012 in a game that saw an overtime Hurricanes victory, 78-74.

Catch the game on ESPN and Watch ESPN with Dick Vitale and Dan Shulman making the call with Jeannine Edwards on the sideline. The game will also be carried live by 560 WQAM Radio with Joe Zagacki (play-by-play) and Josh Darrow (analyst).

Head coach Jim Larraņaga is in his 29th season as a head coach and second at Miami. He has a 503-350 overall record and is 33-16 in his second season at Miami.
