2014-15 SEASON

Coral Gables Campus

September 24- October 4
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul crushing, pout inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box. Ages 13+.

October 10 – 26
Winner of five Tony Awards, Rick Elice’s Peter and the Starcatcher is the innovative and imaginative play with music, based on the best-selling novel by Miami-based Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. In this high-flying adventure, thirteen actors play more than 100 unforgettable characters – plus most of the scenery and furniture – in an exhilarating journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up?

November 12 – 23
Be the first to witness this innovative adaptation of the world famous opera Carmen, written and directed by Tony nominated director Moisés Kaufman. Set in Cuba in 1958, Carmen tells the story of a naïve man who is seduced by a fiery woman and his subsequent downfall in her hands. This co-production with one of New York’s premier theatre companies, Tectonic Theatre Project, will infuse an Afro-Cuban twist into the classic music of Georges Bizet.

February 18 – February 28
This all-female classic comedy offers sharp commentary on the lives, relationships, and power struggles of Manhattan socialites in the 1930s. Filled with gossip, loud personalities, and witty comedy, this play by Clare Boothe Luce is sure to entertain.

April 15 – 26
The first of many masterpiece musicals by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Oklahoma! tells the love story of Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurie, a winsome farm girl, at the turn of the century. This cheerful musical is sure to have audiences humming long after they leave the theater.

Middle class housewife Ila is trying once again to add some spice to her marriage, this time through her cooking. She desperately hopes that this new recipe will finally arouse some kind of reaction from her neglectful husband. She prepares a special lunchbox to be delivered to him at work, but, unbeknownst to her, it is mistakenly delivered to another office worker, Saajan, a lonely man on the verge of retirement. Curious about the lack of reaction from her husband, Ila puts a little note in the following day's lunchbox, in the hopes of getting to the bottom of the mystery. This begins a series of lunchbox notes between Saajan and Ila, and the mere comfort of communicating with a stranger anonymously soon evolves into an unexpected friendship. Gradually, their notes become little confessions about their loneliness, memories, regrets, fears, and even small joys. They each discover a new sense of self and find an anchor to hold on to in the big city of Mumbai that so often crushes hopes and dreams. Still strangers physically, Ila and Saajan become lost in a virtual relationship that could jeopardize both their realities.

The Lunchbox screens Friday, July 25 at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 26 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday, July 27 at 1:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
