UM’s Ethics Programs feature and contribute to a number of initiatives to address issues in environmental ethics. These include:
SOUTH FLORIDA ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS CONSORTIUM
Co-founding and supporting the South Florida Environmental Ethics Consortium (SFEEC) a collaborative regional effort to link educational institutions, governmental agencies, nongovernmental agencies, advocacy groups and others. Collaborators include Florida Atlantic University and the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust.
SOUTH FLORIDA ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS CONFERENCE
UM is the leader in sponsoring the SFEEC's annual South Florida Environmental Ethics Conference.
AMBIENT PROJECT
Developing the ethics module for the AMBIENT Project, a systemic approach to environmental health science
education. AMBIENT (for “Atmospheric and Marine-Based Interdisciplinary Environmental health Training”) is a National Institutes of Health-funded program in which a health-science problem-based learning approach is delivered by special trained Miami-Dade County Public School teachers. The teachers work together to enhance understanding of environmental and ethical issues through hands-on summer workshops with research scientists from the University of Miami, Florida International University, and County Department of Health.
