Core
Values Emphasized in this Learning Module
Integrity
Honesty
Pursuit of Excellence
Responsibility
Students
will encounter the values of integrity, honesty, and the pursuit
of excellence as they read the selected portions of Walden. Thoreau
is exploring his life, wondering what the purpose of life is,
and trying to define a well lived life. Personal integrity and
honesty are two key virtues he settles on in his investigation.
The pursuit of excellence, in addition to the above, ties in with
the concept of virtue ethics, as defined and discussed below.
Responsibility can primarily be explored in terms of humanity’s
relationship and responsibility with nature.
