The Privacy / Data Protection Project began in 2002, with an effort to help health care practitioners comply with the then-new data protection requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
The centerpiece of this project is a web site dedicated to privacy and data protection issues in health care. In 2003-4, the web site will be expanding to cover privacy issues in other sectors. The site materials include a collection of free web-based training modules, to help practitioners meet the educational requirements of HIPAA's Privacy and Security rules.
In 2005, the project web site will expand beyond health care to provide resource materials for privacy issues in other sectors.
