Bioethics and Health Law Consortium of South Florida
BAHLC, originally called the South Florida Bioethics/Health Law Working Group, began in 1997, when four academics met and decided that it would be worthwhile to create an organization within which academics and professionals would meet and discuss bioethical matters and legal issues relating to the health care system.
CITI Program
The CITI Program is a subscription service providing research ethics education to all members of the research community. To participate fully, learners must be affiliated with a CITI participating organization.
Florida Bioethics Network
The Florida Bioethics Network (FBN) is dedicated to the understanding and resolution of ethical and legal problems arising in health care and research in Florida's hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, managed care organizations and teaching institutions. The FBN can help with a variety of health care organization ethics education needs.
Jay Weiss Center for Social Medicine and Health Equity
The Center was founded on behalfof the vision and the beliefs of the late Jay Weiss. Jay's vision was to create a program that developed and supported medical students and residents alike to practice medicine in underserved and impoverished areas. We have since expanded our center's efforts to include research and service based projects. Journal of Philosophy, Science and Law
The Journal of Philosophy, Science & Law is an interdisciplinary forum dedicated to examining issues in the intersection of applied philosophy, science, and the law. As science and technology advance, there will continue to be challenging philosophical and legal issues that need to be sorted out and thoroughly investigated. An analysis of these issues can have a significant and positive impact on educational programs, public policy, and professional practice.
Miami Area Geriatric Education Center
The Miami Area Geriatric Education Center is a consortium of educators from the University of Miami, the Miami Department of Veterans Affairs Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center, Barry University, Florida Atlantic University, and University of South Florida. The Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center (AHEC) also contributes to the planning and development of educational programming. MAGEC was established to provide a coordinated interdisciplinary program of geriatric education for all health-care professionals serving the elderly in South Florida.
UM Department of Philosophy
The Philosophy Department offers a wide range of courses at the undergraduate level which cover every major area of philosophy as well as its history. Students can major or minor in the subject. In addition, the department sponsors two undergraduate philosophy organizations: the Philosophy Club, which is open to all UM undergraduates, and Phi Sigma Tau, a chapter of the National Honor Society in Philosophy. Both groups afford students regular opportunities to meet, eat, and talk philosophy with each other and with graduate students and faculty in the department. All undergraduates who are interested in philosophy are welcome to participate in these philosophical events.
UM Ethics Society
The University of Miami Ethics Society has a decade-long track record in stimulating discussion and debate into the ethical implications of our academic, professional and social environments.
We endeavor to spread understanding of ethics and critical thinking throughout society – in law, medicine, politics, business, information technology and other fields. We will delve into these issues through special programs and presentations, panel discussions and collaborations with other groups.
