The Office of the General Counsel supports the dynamic educational and research environment of the University of Miami by providing legal advice to promote sound decision-making in all areas of operation, research and administration.

The University of Miami as an institution is our client. The General Counsel’s function is to provide, manage and coordinate quality legal services including legal counsel and representation, litigation and legal risk management, contract drafting and review, and advising on compliance for all parts of the University, including the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. As part of these services, General Counsel provides legal advice to University officers, administrators, and staff acting in their capacity as employees.

It is the goal of General Counsel to provide counsel to minimize legal risk and costs, reduce litigation exposure, and ensure legal compliance, and to do so efficiently, expeditiously, reliably and professionally.
