University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center

The University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center serves a major metropolitan area with a multiethnic population. In such an urban setting, house offers in the Pediatric Residency Training Program gain extensive experience. All disciplines of pediatric practice--from acute care of the neonate to the management of the psychosocial aspects of adolescent medicine and chronic diseases--are covered at the hospital. Such a broad range of experience cannot be duplicated in small settings.

All pediatric subspecialties are represented in the Department of Pediatrics, and the majority of them include fellowship training. Consulting and ancillary services such as nutrition support; social work; child life; and respiratory, physical, and speech therapy are part of the comprehensive care available at the Children's Hospital Center. The center includes inpatient and outpatient units, and a unique design feature of the hospital permits delivery rooms to be adjacent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the outpatient area to be adjacent to inpatient wards.

Jackson Memorial Hospital has more than 1,500 beds. The medical center also includes the Mailman Center for Child Development, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Ryder Trauma Center, University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute/Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital, Diabetes Research Institute, The Louis Calder Memorial Library, Schools of Nursing and Medicine, research buildings, clinics and community outreach programs. The medical center has more than 35 buildings on 65 acres in central Miami.

The University of Miami School of Medicine, a leading research institution, ranks in the top 25 of all United States medical schools in research funding. The research activity and the interchange with School of Medicine students provide an active and intellectually stimulating environment of the residency program.
