Areas of Research
COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY

The Counseling Psychology program is based on the scientist-practitioner model with training opportunities in the areas of families, multicultural perspectives, and health psychology. The program values diversity through a range of populations, settings for research, and diversity related research. Diversity also describes the theoretical orientations of the faculty: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems.

The summer program is able to take advantage of these offerings and provides faculty and graduate student mentorship which allows the summer research students an opportunity to work closely through a variety of small group and individual instructional settings.

ECONOMICS

Although roughly 12% of Bachelor’s degrees in Economics are earned by African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans, only about 5% of recent Economics doctorates received by U.S. citizens have been earned by these minorities.

The summer program seeks talented undergraduates for doctoral programs in Economics, by offering a unique opportunity for students to gain technical skills in Economics, and conduct research with prominent faculty.

INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
The International Studies program offers a graduate curriculum for the study of cutting-edge international issues such as globalization, democratic governance, comparative and international political economy, post-Cold War conflicts and security threats, new forms of civil society mobilization in world politics, global environmental challenges and the management of global commons.

Students applying to the summer research program will have an opportunity to work with faculty who specialize in these areas with topics that fall into one of three major fields: international relations, comparative politics, and international and comparative political economy.
