Maria Linares has never met a stranger – once you arrange a conference with her, you’ll know why. She practically glows with enthusiasm, energy and “can do” spirit.

Born in Havana and raised in South Florida, Maria knows Miami well, and that intimate knowledge, along with solid event-planning experience and outgoing personality, explains why folks return time and again for her help in pulling together complex conferences, seminars, meetings or special events.

“I love my job,” says Maria. “I love the clients and the dynamic nature of this industry.”

Initially, Maria primarily oversaw rental and maintenance of the multiple-use facilities at the University of Miami’s James L. Knight International Center and the John J. Koubek Memorial Center. But quickly, as word of her creativity spread, she became more involved with clients’ special needs. And UM’s full-service conference facilities were born.

“I found myself assisting and making recommendations that helped make events standout successes,” she says. Those skills also sparked a blooming wedding and social event-planning business at the Koubek Center, a restored historic mansion in Little Havana with beautiful landscaping and gardens.

Maria provides a range of publications and materials that help her out-of-town customers feel more at home while visiting South Florida. “I provide them with maps, dining guides and other tourist information. My office also assists with restaurant reservations when asked and even make recommendations.”

In short, Maria makes things happen by paying attention to every detail and refusing to recognize obstacles.
