Greek Gold and Garnet Jewlery

This jewelry is inspired by earrings dating to 450 B.C., almost the precise year that Greece's greatest architectural achievement, the Parthenon of Athen's Acropolis, was begun. The simplified shape of the original earrings reflects the classical idealism of the Age of Pericles. The design was unusual as inlays of stone or glass were not commonly used at this time. The delicate hoops, to the left, feature a gold bezel encircled with filigree into which a garnet has been set. The necklace and earrings, to the right, feature a heart shaped garnet. A delicate freshwater pearl has been added. Vermeil (24 Kt gold over sterling) or Sterling Silver. Made in U.S.A.

Pre-Columbian Cat Pin and Matching Earrings

The inspiration for these pieces (right and bottom) is based on a detail from an ovoid (egg shaped) vase depicting the Paracas mythological Oculate Being. This creature was a composite image with fox, feline, killer whale and bird attributes. Paracas potters were more interested in the decoration of the ceramic surfaces than in the sculptural form. Incised lines were often filled with brightly colored resins in a post–fired application. 24 Kt. electoplate. Made in U.S.A.

Jaquar Pendant

This pendant is reproduced from a stirrup spout with a jaguar effigy head created by the Chavin people. Chavin artisans created cult images that incorporated elements from the jaguar, combined with those of serpents, crocodiles, and mythological anthropomorphic creatures. Chavin culture was the first expansive civilization in Peru, spreading to the coast of Peru and as far south as the Paracas Peninsula. 24 Kt electroplate. Made in U.S.A.
