Art Submission Guidelines

The mission of the Lowe Art Museum, the art museum of the University of Miami, is to serve the University, the Greater Miami communities, and national and international visitors as a teaching and exhibiting resource through its permanent and borrowed collections.

The Lowe Art Museum’s exhibition programs feature originally curated, art historical exhibitions drawn primarily from the museum’s permanent collection of world art.

Exhibition schedules are planned approximately three to five years in advance with the goal of presenting a variety of topics and themes that are reflective of the diverse nature of the museum’s permanent collection. .

ARTIST SUBMISSIONS

Artists or their representatives who wish to present their work to the Lowe Art Museum’s curatorial department, either as a proposed exhibition or for inclusion in the permanent collection, are asked to follow the guidelines below.

Please note that, as an academic art history museum, the Lowe Art Museum does not feature a regular program of contemporary art exhibitions.  In addition, because our exhibitions are scheduled well in advance, it is rare that we are able to accommodate unsolicited submissions for exhibitions or inclusion in the permanent collection.

  1.  Ensure that your work meets the following criteria:
    1. Artist’s work must be included in the permanent collection of at least three major museums.
    2. Artist’s work must have been included in at least three important group or solo exhibitions at major museums.
    3. Artist must be represented by at least one respected gallery or show evidence that he/she has been so represented in the past.
    4. Artwork is being proposed for exhibition or donation purposes.  The Lowe Art Museum does not have funding for the purchase of contemporary art.
  2. Submit via email the following items:
    1. Digital images of artwork proposed for inclusion in the permanent collection, or a sample selection of artwork proposed for exhibition.  Images may either be submitted as individual JPGs, a web site URL where the work can be viewed online, or a PDF of compiled images.
    2. Title, date, medium, and dimensions of each work.
    3. Artist CV showing demonstrating that criteria listed above have been met.
    4. Artist statement.
    5. Indication as to whether you are requesting an exhibition or offering your artwork as a donation to the museum.
  3. Send the above information via email to lowecuratorial@miami.edu.
  4. All proposals must be received digitally.  Please do not submit materials via regular mail as these will not be returned.
  5. DO NOT SUBMIT ORIGINAL ARTWORK.  Due to insurance and risk management issues, the Lowe Art Museum cannot accept unsolicited, original artwork for consideration.
  6. Every effort will be made to review submissions and respond in a timely manner provided your work meets the criteria list above.  Museum staff members are unable to respond to requests from artists whose work does not meet its stated criteria for collecting or exhibiting contemporary art.

Museum staff members are not available for unsolicited appointments.
