Docent Program

The Docent Program supports the educational mission of the Lowe Art Museum by leading group tours to all visitors. The Docents also support the museum by promoting interest in the Lowe and by volunteering assistance with its educational programs. The Docent Program:

  1. Provides training to community volunteers to enable them to guide groups of young people and adults who visit the Museum.
  2. Provides continuing education opportunities in art and art history for its membership.
  3. Provides opportunities for cultural enrichment through its support of the Museum, its exhibitions, lectures and other activities.
  4. The docents work with the Curator of Education and the Museum staff to broaden the educational outreach of the University of Miami to the Miami-Dade community.

The Lowe Art Museum Docent Program offers an intensive training program in museum education theory and techniques for all volunteer docents. For interest in the volunteer docent program please contact Jodi Sypher, Curator of Education at jsypher@miami.edu.
