PHILANTHROPY IN REVIEW
Our donors have contributed immeasurably to making the University of Miami a world-class institution. From the Coral Gables campus to the School of Medicine to the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, the University has emerged in a short span to become the largest, most comprehensive private research university in the southeastern United States. This past fiscal year, our donors contributed $92.7 million to support the schools, colleges, and programs of the University of Miami, a 7.6 percent increase over last year. Of particular importance is the ongoing financial support from alumni. This year alumni contributed $14 million in gifts and commitments, an increase of more than 19 percent from last year. Endowment support reached $16 million, up by 20 percent. Philanthropic support has led to significant developments at the University. In the past year, the Schools of Architecture and Nursing broke ground on state-of-the-art facilities, the Cuban Heritage Collection acquired a new home in the Richter Library, a faculty office wing opened at the School of Business Administration, and we established centers for research on breast cancer and age-related memory loss at the School of Medicine. These and other achievements have created a flurry of excitement on our campuses. Recognizing the opportunity before us, faculty, trustees, and administrators have heeded the call to action by launching Momentum: The Campaign for the University of Miami. Today we are better poised to build on the accomplishments of the past than at any other time in our brief history. We are counting on the commitment of the University’s alumni and friends to lift us to our next level, just as your support has, over the course of the last 77 years, brought us to this point. On the following pages are the names of organizations and individuals who donated to the University of Miami this year. Since its founding, the University has stood for the principle that education is a fundamental requirement of civilization. We are deeply grateful for the support of our alumni and friends who have helped us achieve excellence and helped us prepare students for the challenges of our changing world. This profound undertaking would not have been possible without the 38,000 donors who made more than 50,000 contributions to the University last year. Thank you for your investment in the University of Miami.
