Addressing the diagnosis that affects one in 150 children, the University of Miami-Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD) already serves more than 4,000 people. To reach even more, the center rolled out its new 23-foot Mobile Autism Family Clinic—complete with therapy/evaluation room, waiting area, and workstation—in June. The clinic on wheels will give underserved parts of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties free screenings, resources, and family education. UM-NSU CARD psychologists, behavioral analysts, and special educators will staff the vehicle, which is funded in part by a $56,000 Unicorn Children’s Foundation grant.
