Citizens Board Recognizes Sergio M. Gonzalez for Distinguished Service

Sergio M. Gonzalez, senior vice president for University Advancement and External Affairs, received the UM Citizens Board Distinguished Service Award at the organization’s 66th Annual End-of-Year Celebration on June 7 at the Coral Gables Country Club. The award honors individuals and organizations known for demonstrating exemplary service over several years to the University.

“It was a great surprise to be named the recipient of the UM Citizens Board Distinguished Service Award,” said Gonzalez, who was presented with the award by last year’s recipient, Peggy M. Hollander, immediate past president of the Citizens Board and a former ex-officio member of the UM Board of Trustees. “I’m so honored by this prestigious recognition.”

Gonzalez, who joined the University in 2001, led fundraising efforts for UM’s record-breaking Momentum campaign, which raised $1.4 billion. He is currently spearheading fundraising efforts for Momentum2, which so far has raised more than $1 billion for scholarships, research, and outreach programs.
