This February, celebrate and become aware of the achievements African Americans have made to society.

'The Renaissance of Consciousness is today, now, it is the future. The question is no longer how do we live with this double consciousness, but have we unlocked it and used it to impact the world?

Opening Ceremonies

Join us for BAM 2007 Opening Ceremonies and celebrate the start of Renaissance of Consciousness with entertainment, free food, Afrocentric vendors, and glimpse of the past.

Gospel Explosion: Basking In the Glory of His Presence

Come share this experience with people from all walks of life as music, dance, drama, and poetry are used as mediums of spiritual expression.  Also featured is upcoming Gospel Sensation Demetrius Johnson!

Beauty and Wellness Fair

Come be treated like royalty while getting beauty and wellness advice from professionals such as MAC and Mary Kay at this fair entitled “Royal Rejuvenation”. This event will include refreshments, giveaways, entertainment and a beauty and wellness showcase to revive and celebrate the mind, body, and soul.
Brother’s Appreciation
Wednesday, February 7                        Law School, 7:07pm
The Mu Nu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc will host its annual Brothers Appreciation Day in honor of the black men on campus. The men are served a delicious homemade dinner and awards are distributed; the most prestigious of which is Sigma Man of the Year.
Miss Black & Gold

The Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant, a national program under the sponsorship of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is an outgrowth of the long tradition of Alpha Chapters celebrating the academic excellence and talent of women.  This annual event serves to mediate healthy competition amongst minority undergraduate women in the arena of pageantry on local, district, regional, and national levels, respectively. 

Greek Extravaganza
Saturday, February 10                        Knight Sports Complex, 7pm

The annual Greek Extravaganza step show is the University of Miami's own version of "Stomp the Yard."  Historically Black Greek organizations put together a show worthy of applause; each year a new organization is crowned as the best steppers on the yard.

African Storytelling
Monday, February 12                         Virrick Community Center, 3pm
African Storytelling is an event that exposes children in the community to the living traditions of African cultures through a production of African folktales. Student actors will perform two plays.  The program also includes audience interactive poetry, African dance, drumming and African folk songs.

Valentine’s Day Spoken Word

Enjoy a showcase of inspiring and romantic poetry.

Jeffrey Johnson

BAM Speaker Convocation
Thursday, February 15                        Storer Auditorium, 7pm

Jeffrey Johnson, the voice for a new generation of leadership, a social activist, an AME minister, a critically-acclaimed author, BET’s on-air host and producer of “The Cousin Jeff Chronicles” and “Chop Up” series is the 2007 BAM lecturer.  Mr. Johnson works diligently to bring light to social problems affecting the Black and Latino community.

Fashion Show: Black In the Day

Watch as our models strut down the runway.  Come see the movement of dancers and the creativity of actors, as we take the typical fashion show to a whole different level.

Community Service: Pioneers of the Past…Dreamers of the Future
Saturday, February 17                        Belafonte Tacolcy Park (Meet at Stanford Circle, 8am)
Join us for a volunteer day commemorating the history and legacy of great African Americans.  This fun-filled day will include events such as “The Jackie Robinson Baseball Challenge,” a miniature football clinic, trivia challenges, music, food, a bounce house, and many more surprises.  Please come out and participate, as we make this day for the youth of Liberty City an event they will never forget.

Mr. Yellow Rose Scholarship Pageant

Mr. Yellow Rose Scholarship Pageant is the 1st annual pageant acknowledging the young men of the University of Miami who show a high regard for the importance of community service. The competition winner will participate in a variety of Yellow Rose Society community service events. Come and witness the coronation of the first Mr. Yellow Rose. All proceeds from the pageant will go to charity.

Mr. UBS

Are you ready to win a dinner date with one the finest men UM has to offer? Come and join us at our 1st annual Mr. UBS. All proceeds will be donated towards this year’s philanthropy, the African Heritage Center.

Talent Show

Royal Heritage Ball: A Night in Eden

Come out and celebrate forty years of service, excellence, and leadership at this year’s Royal Heritage Ball. This night of elegance features a meet-and-greet reception, dinner and dancing.  Tickets required for entry.
