Submit your textbook adoptions anytime on the Bookstore site. Enter your e-mail address and initial password of "475." Contact Richard Dunham 305-284-4103 or read the Online Guide (Adobe Acrobat). The deadline to order textbooks for the fall semester is Tuesday, April 15.


MILITARY COMMANDER TO SPEAK ON CAMPUS TODAY

Major General Kathryn G. Frost, who serves as the Commander of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) in Dallas, will be the featured speaker at the College of Arts and Sciences' Jane S. Roberts Memorial Lecture, 8 p.m., Monday, March 24, at Storer Auditorium. The lecture is titled Army of One: Leadership in the War Room and the Board Room, and is free and open to the public. FACULTY SENATE MEETS THIS WEEK

SUMMER, FALL CLASS REGISTRATION DATES SET

Course schedule books for the fall and summer sessions are being distributed. Registration for these two semesters is Monday, April 7 through Friday, April 18. Student appointment times will be available on EASY beginning Monday, March 24. Due to the Passover holiday there will be no scheduled registration appointments Wednesday through Friday, April 16 to 18, but the Office of the Registrar will still be open for those students who wish to register.


U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT ISSUES TRAVEL WARNING

The U.S. Department of State has issued a Travel Warning intended to alert Americans to the increased potential for anti-American violence, including terrorist actions against U.S. citizens, as a result of the military action in Iraq. The warning states, "The Department of State reminds Americans traveling to or residing in the Middle East and North Africa (including the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf region) to exercise caution. Tensions generated by the current crisis in Iraq have increased the potential threat to U.S. citizens and interests abroad posed by those harboring anti-American sentiments." FAX COVER SHEET MAKES REIMBURSEMENT EASY

Faculty and staff who use the EZReimburse MasterCard at a physician's office, hospital, or other health care provider may fax a Receipt Transmittal Cover Sheet along with a health care provider's receipt to adjudicate the claim. The fax Receipt Transmittal Cover Sheet is easy to use. Upon receipt by FBMC, your claim will be adjudicated, thus eliminating the wait for reimbursement. Faculty and staff who pay for services without using the EZReimburse MasterCard must submit a Flexible Spending Account - Reimbursement Request form (claim form), along with copies of receipts for the service to be reimbursed. IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHEN USING THE FLEXIBLE SPENDING EZCARDS TO PURCHASE PRESCRIPTIONS

Patients who drop off a prescription must present the Flexible Spending EZCard to the pharmacist at that time. Patients who call in a prescription to the pharmacy for refills on prior orders must inform the pharmacist in advance that they have the EZCard and give the card number. If leaving a message, provide a contact number in case the pharmacist has any questions.

SPRING FOOTBALL PRACTICE INFORMATION

Spring Football is here! Catch a sneak peek at the five-time national champion Hurricanes at one of two free events coming up. On Friday, March 28, the 'Canes will practice at Lockhart Stadium in Broward County. Gates open at 5 p.m., and practice starts at 6 p.m. The annual spring game at the Orange Bowl, the Fox Sports Net CANESFEST, is 10 a.m., Saturday, April 5. Gates open at 9 a.m., but get there early to secure 2003 season tickets. In addition to the game, collect autographs and be on hand for the Q & A with head football coach Larry Coker. UNIVERSITY CENTER SURVEY

The University Center, built in 1965, is a central component of campus and student life. One of the projects being considered for inclusion in the upcoming comprehensive fundraising campaign is a major renovation and expansion of the UC. All faculty and staff are being asked to participate in a online survey that will assist in planning this project. Please complete the survey by Friday, March 28. Your participation is absolutely confidential, and the responses will be analyzed by the UC staff and its consultants, Brailsford and Dunlavey, and incorporated into the planning process. SPEAKERS TO DISCUSS CUBAN ECONOMY

Jaime Suchlicki, director of the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies, will moderate the luncheon/seminar The Slowdown in the Cuban Economy in 2001-2003: External Factors or Internal Malaise?, 12 to 2 p.m., Friday, March 28, at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies. The speaker is Carmelo Mesa-Lago, distinguished professor emeritus of economics and Latin American Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, who will be discussing his study on the Cuban economy. THREE-DAY SYMPOSIUM ON NORTH AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT

The Miami European Union Center and the Jean Monnet Chair, in cooperation with the Dante B. LECTURER DISCUSSES THE BUSINESS OF SPORTS AGENTS


The Center for Research on Sport in Society's distinguished lecturer Kenneth Shropshire, J.D., chair of legal studies at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, will discuss his latest book The Business of Sports Agents, 7 p.m., Monday, March 31, at the Storer Auditorium. Professor Shropshire specializes in the areas of sports business, negotiations, diversity, and general business law. The mayor of Philadelphia recently appointed Shropshire to chair Philadelphia's stadium site selection committee. HEBREW LITERATURE EXPERT DISCUSSES THE PROPHETS

The Department of Religious Studies and the Judaic Studies Program of the College of Arts and Sciences presents Marvin A. Sweeney for a lecture titled Reading the Prophets After the Shoah, 5 p.m., Monday, March 31, in room 101 of the Learning Center. Sweeney is a former faculty member and is currently professor of Hebrew Bible at the Claremont School of Theology and professor of religion at the Claremont Graduate University. RAPE DEFENSE CLASS OFFERED BY PUBLIC SAFETY

The Department of Public Safety presents the 12-hour women's course R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense), 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., April 5, 15, and 22 at the Wellness Center. R.A.D. is a personal safety/violence prevention course offering basic education from risk reduction and avoidance to basic physical self-defense techniques designed specifically for women of all ages. BASCOM PALMER EYE INSTITUTE LAUNCHES EXPANDED WEB SITE

The School of Medicine's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute recently launched its new Web site at http://www.bascompalmer.org. The site features patient-friendly health information, as well as comprehensive scientific and referral data for physicians. Bascom Palmer faculty and researchers, who will continually review and update the information to ensure accuracy and timeliness, wrote the majority of the site. New features and information will be added on a continuing basis.
