EMPLOYEE
PARKING INFORMATION FOR COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES
A
new UM tradition begins next Friday, May 9, when
the Spring 2003 Commencement Ceremonies will be held
in the Convocation Center. It is estimated that approximately
16,000 parents and guests will visit our campus throughout
the course of the day to participate in one of the four
ceremonies. Due to the high parking demand expected,
the Ponce and Pavia Garages will be restricted to commencement
parking only. Employees who use the Pavia Garage for
parking will be directed to the Mahoney/Pearson Garage.
Although the garage is a short distance from Stanford
Circle, an express shuttle will be operated between
Mahoney/Pearson and Stanford Circle between 7:30 and
9 a.m., and again between 4:30 and 6 p.m. Employees
who use the Ponce Garage will be accommodated in the
Brescia and Scodella Lots. An express shuttle will run
between the Scodella and Brescia Lots and the Ponce
Garage during the same hours as listed above.
TWO
SCHOOLS BREAK GROUND ON NEW BUILDINGS
The
Schools of Architecture and Nursing recently broke ground
on new buildings. The Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center
will consist of an 8,600-square-foot building and will
include a lecture hall and classroom with state-of-the-art
educational telecommunications equipment. The new architecture
center will bear the name of Mr. Perez, founder and
CEO of The Related Group of Florida, a Miami-based real
estate development company, and member of the University's
Board of Trustees, who donated the lead gift of $1.25
million for the creation of the building. The M. Christine
Schwartz Center for Nursing Education, a four-story
building made possible by a $5 million gift from M.
Christine and Ted Schwartz, will be home to the school's
350-plus undergraduate and graduate students as well
as more than 40 faculty and staff members. Both buildings
are expected to open in the fall semester of 2004.
