SUMMER RATES AT THE WELLNESS CENTER TAKE A DIP

Beginning Thursday, May 15, the Wellness Center will sell one-, two-, or three-month memberships at a reduced rate. Faculty and staff can join for the low rate of $30 per month (compared to $39 per month). This is a great opportunity to give the Wellness Center a try while the students are gone for the summer. It also allows the flexibility to work (or workout) around your vacation schedule. The reduced rates run through Friday, August 15. For more information, visit http://www.miami.edu/wellness or call the membership office at 305-284-8540.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY REMINDER ABOUT DOWNLOADING, SHARING MUSIC FILES

The Record Industry Association of America (RIAA), which represents several major music labels, filed several lawsuits in federal court last month against students attending Princeton, Michigan Technological University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The students in question were accused of hosting millions of music files that were available for downloading. The cases were settled out of court, but required each student to pay between $12,000 and $17,500, and the downloading sites were removed from the campus networks. Last October, 2,300 letters were sent to colleges and universities nationwide, including UM, informing them of the crackdown on pirated and illegally distributed music files. As a reminder, it is against University policy (A046) to install or use software for purposes of sharing copyrighted material. For further information, contact itsecurity@med.miami.edu.
