We are looking for two kinds of volunteers:
  1. Persons with a biological background who are generally interested in gaining field experience working with sharks.
  2. Students already involved in a graduate program looking for a research project for their degree work.
  • Volunteers must be willing to stay at least one month. Training, orientation and research participation is not possible in less time.
  • Recommendation letters from two of your professors, or employers, are required
  • Please attach a current photograph. With so many applications, it's easy to forget a name. A face with a name can be remembered!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS CAREFULLY
(Print and Save for reference):

  1. To enter the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, everyone (including US and Canadian citizens) will need a passport. Please do not contact the Bahamas government about your work status. If you need a one, please obtain a tourist visa. You do not need a work permit. Contact Kat Gledhill if you have any questions on visas.

  2. Volunteers receive a special Bahamas immigration status when working at the station. Volunteers leaving the Station must leave the island then if desired, they may return to the Bahamas for other activities unrelated to work at the Station.

  3. Volunteers will be required to read, understand and sign a Waiver of Liability and an insurance agreement. You must have health insurance. The Bimini Biological Field Station will not be responsible for medical payments on your behalf.

  4. Alcohol is not allowed at the Station, and controlled substances are not allowed during your stay at the BBFS. Violators must leave the project.

  5. Volunteers must stay at least one month. Training, orientation and research participation is not possible in less time.

  6. Recommendation letters from two of your professors, or employers for those applicants not in school, are required

  7. The Bimini Biological Field Station will actually charter your flight so that both volunteers and freight can be carried to the Station. Payment for travel and accommodations is due in Bimini on the first day of your arrival.

  8. There is a 30-day probationary period during which your relation with the Bimini Biological Field Station can be terminated. If we ask you to leave, your money will be refunded less the days you spent at the station. If you leave voluntarily, the Bimini Biological Field Station will retain your fee. Each month thereafter your tenure may be extended for another month. Fees are due on that date.

  9. VOLUNTEERS MUST VACATE THE LAB DURING COURSES GIVEN AT THE STATION. You are responsible to make arrangements to stay on the island or go back to the U.S. mainland. Your room and board at the Bimini Biological Field Station will not be charged during your absence from the lab.

  10. Only completed applications with two recommendations and photograph will be considered. With so many applications, it is easy to forget a name. A face with a name can be remembered! Please attach a photo.
