Admissions

Application Deadline

Admission is on a rolling basis until May 15th for each fall semester.  However, to be considered for fellowships, scholarships, and assistantships, complete applications (including GRE scores) must be received no later than February1st.  U.S. citizens and residents should complete the online FAFSA form at www.fafsa.ed.gov to be eligible for all financial assistance including federal loans.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the PhD program is selective due to the rigorous nature of the program.  The primary characteristic of the applicant is that he or she wants to be a researcher and has an interest in the research currently in progress at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies.

The typical student entering the PhD program exceeds the University of Miami’s minimum academic admission requirements which include a GRE score of 1000 (verbal and quantitative), and an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 for the junior and senior years.  During the past 5 years, the average doctoral student enrolling with a master’s degree has had at least a 3.3 graduate GPA. In addition, other admission considerations are strong letters of recommendation attesting to the student’s disposition towards scholarship, graduation from highly reputable institutions, and a successful personal interview by the school’s faculty.
