Richard Silverman, MD

An Assistant Professor of Clinical and Critical Care Anesthesia at the UM Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, Richard Silverman holds a joint appointment in Nursing Anesthesia at the School of Nursing and Health Studies. A pioneer in the areas of anesthesiology and critical care, he has published extensively and given presentations in the areas of neurocritical care, invasive and non-invasive airway management, and hospice/palliative care.
Dr. Silverman completed his medical education at the Far Eastern University in Manila. He holds a BS in Biology from Tulane University and completed a senior clerkship at The Engelwood Hospital Consortium of New York Hospital/Cornell, Harlem Hospital/Columbia-Presbyterian in Engelwood, NJ. He completed his internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in the Department of Psychiatry, a transitional internship in the Departments of Medicine and Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center, and residency in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Baylor College of Medicine, where he served Chief Resident and also served as President of the Baylor House Staff Association. He also completed a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.
In addition to his teaching and clinical responsibilities, Dr. Silverman currently serves as Medical Director of Nurse Anesthesia Services and Director of Point of Care Laboratory Services for Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Director of Airway Laboratory for the University of Miami Department of Anesthesiology as well as the Jackson Memorial Hospital Residency Program in Anesthesiology.
