Certificate Programs

The School offers certificate programs to MSN-prepared advanced practice nurses who wish to add on a new specialty area in acute care or family nurse practitioner.  Students take classes with SONHS master’s students but only take the courses and are precepted for the hours that are deemed necessary to sit for certification.  Each plan of study is individually tailored to fit with the student’s prior academic background.  Certificate students take classes in the semesters in which the courses are offered.

A post-master’s certificate is also available in the specialty area of Psychiatric Mental Health.  This program may be offered in the fall semester if there is sufficient enrollment so applicants should apply as early as possible but no later than May 1.  This program may also be offered to cohorts of nurse practitioners from hospitals, community facilities, and private practices at special tuition rates.  HR representatives or administrators should contact Kathy Del Toro, Director of Graduate Admissions at kdeltoro@miami.edu or 305-284-4732 to discuss starting a cohort for their nurses.  CEU classes that focus on psychiatric mental health issues may also be offered by special arrangement with the SONHS.

Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in education or research are also available to cohorts of nurses from hospitals, community facilities, and private practices.   To make arrangements to set up a certificate program for a group of your nurses, please contact Kathy Del Toro Kathy Del Toro, Director of Graduate Admissions at kdeltoro@miami.edu or 305-284-4732.
