MSN Programs

MSN programs start each Fall semester (August)

Application Deadlines


Early Decision for Fall Semester of next year:December 1
Final Deadline for Fall Semester: June 15

MSN Admission Requirements

  • A Baccalaureate degree
  • Official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate institutions unless the applicant is a graduate of the University of Miami
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for Nurse Anesthesia, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. The MSN specializing in Nurse Education does not require the GRE for admission. Our GRE School Code is 5815
  • Three letters of reference, one of which is from an academic source
  • Statement of professional goals for graduate study
  • Current résumé
  • Current Florida RN License
  • Photocopies of cards or certificates:
    • Family Nurse Practitioner: Basic Life Support (a.k.a. CPR or BLS)
    • Nurse Education: Basic Life Support (a.k.a. CPR or BLS)
    • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Basic Life Support (a.k.a. CPR or BLS) and Advanced Life Support Certificate (ACLS)
    • Nurse Anesthesia: Basic Life Support (a.k.a. CPR or BLS), Advanced Life Support Certificate and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Prerequisite: Introductory Statistics Course
  • Applicants for whom English is not the native language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • Interviews will be scheduled as requested by faculty
  • Nurse Anesthesia applicants  must have a minimum of one year critical care experience
  • If admitted to an MSN program, students must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, FBI fingerprinting, and have current immunizations. DNP Program

The DNP program starts each Spring semester (January)

Application Deadline

November 1

DNP Admission Requirements

  • A Baccalaureate degree and a Master's degree preferably in nursing from an accredited institution. A valid RN license is required 
  • Official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate institutions if the applicant is not a graduate of the University of Miami   
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required
  • Three strong letters of recommendation are required preferably from individuals with doctorates in nursing. At least one recommendation should be from an academic source
  • Statement of professional goals for graduate study
  • Current résumé
  • A copy of a current Florida RN license
  • • A photocopy of a current Basic Life Support (a.k.a. CPR or BLS) if students are to be placed in clinical settings.
  • Applicants for whom English is not the native language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • All applicants will be scheduled for an interview
  • International students are welcomed into our DNP program. However, some assignments are limited to students holding current Florida RN licenses and CPR cards.
  • If admitted to an DNP program, students must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, FBI fingerprinting, and have current immunizations. PhD Program

The BSN to PhD program starts each summer I session (May) and the MSN to PhD program starts each fall semester.

Application Deadlines

All PhD applicants who wish to be considered for assistantships (tuition and stipends) must submit their applications and all required materials no later than March 15.  Thereafter, applications for the BSN to PhD program will be accepted through April 15.  Applications to the MSN to PhD will be accepted through June 15.

PhD Admission Requirements

  • A Baccalaureate degree in nursing for the BSN to PhD program and/or a Master’s degree for the MSN to PhD program with an outstanding academic record from an accredited institution
  • Official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate institutions if the applicant is not a graduate of the University of Miami   
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) – Our School Code is 5815
  • Three letters of reference one of which is from an academic source
  • Statement of professional goals for graduate study
  • Current résumé
  • Applicants for whom English is not the native language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • A photo copy of a current Florida RN license (see information for international students below)
  • A photocopy of a current Basic Life Support (a.k.a. CPR or BLS) for BSN to PhD students
  • Interviews will be scheduled as requested by faculty
  • International students are welcomed into our MSN to PhD program.
