  • If I took courses at another Institution, do I apply as a transfer student, freshman or graduate student?

    If you are applying for our Traditional BSN program, Accelerated BSN program or any of the Health Science Tracks, you apply as a TRANSFER Student.
  • Do I need to fill out a specific application for the School of Nursing and Health Studies (SOHNS)?

    No, you only need to apply once. Make sure you state your school of interest is the SONHS and the semester you plan to begin.
  • I'm interested in the Traditional BSN program and I have all of my general education and pre-requisite courses completed. Can I start in the Spring or Summer semesters?

    No, the clinical portion of the nursing program begins in the FALL semester only.
  • I took writing courses at an institution that had the GORDON RULE. Would they count toward the writing requirement for the Traditional BSN?

    Yes, however you may be asked to submit a syllabus or course description for evaluation.
    Suggestion:
    English Literature courses from an accredited Institution would normally comply with this requirement.
  • Would my English Composition I and II courses count as writing intensive?

    No, they are not considered intensive writing courses.
  • How do I know which courses to take at my home school to fulfill UM SONHS requirements?

    Check the course descriptions of the above courses on the UM on-line Bulletin, then compare them with the course descriptions at your institution with the help of your college advisor. A transfer evaluation sheet will help you select transferable courses.
  • When will I know if the courses I have taken will transfer in as equivalent to the required courses for the SONHS?

    Once you apply to UM, the Admissions Office will review your official transcripts, and they will send you a Transfer/Credit Evaluation Form. This form will list all of the courses that were transferred to UM. When your file is reviewed by the SONHS, you will be advised of any outstanding prerequisites.
  • What is the difference between the BSN Accelerated Program and the BSN Second Degree Program?

    Both programs are for students who hold a bachelor's degree in an area other than nursing. The BSN Second Degree is a (2-year) program. The BSN Accelerated Program is a 1 year (12 month) program.
  • What is the passing rate for the NCLEX?

    Rates vary and are reported on a quarterly basis. Please visit www.nclex.org for the most recent passing rates.
  • How many students are in the Accelerated program?

    In May 2007 55 students enrolled in the Accelerated option BSN program.
  • How many BSN Accelerated Students does the School of Nursing and Heath Studies accept every year?

    Between 50 and 80 students are admitted each Summer.
  • Is there housing for Nursing students?

    All UM students are eligible for on-campus housing. For further information visit www.miami.edu/housing
  • Is the University Village for nursing students and if so what do I need to do to reserve a spot there?

    University Village is reserved for upper class students regardless of degree or major. You may contact Housing at 305-284-4505.
  • Are any of the nursing courses taught online?

    Certain nursing classes have web-based components however, nursing classes are not taught entirely on-line.
  • What are the prerequisites admissions requirements for the Traditional BSN program?

  • Are the prerequisites for the Accelerated BSN program the same as those for the Traditional program?
