Clinical Screening Information

The following information is necessary for all students in a clinical site at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Background Check and Drug testing Clearance.

The Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO), which accredits healthcare facilities across the country, enforced background screening September 2004 and has set requirements mandating that students in a healthcare field must now complete the same background check as hospital employees.

Immunization Clearance

All students in clinical courses are required to provide yearly proof of current immunizations and a complete physical examination to meet the safety requirements of clinical agencies. - The following are the immunizations that are required:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) - Titer needed
  • Varicella vaccine (Chicken Pox) - Titer Needed
  • Hepatitis B vaccine - Titer Needed
    Hepatitis Waiver Form
  • Tetanus - Booster required every 10 Years
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Screening - Yearly

Please have Physician complete the following Form and return to School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification

All students need to be CPR certified. – The following organizations offer CPR certification for Health Care Providers (adult, child and infant) that is in compliance with our requirements.  For current information and classes go to their website.

Certification accepted: BLS for Healthcare Providers (AED)
