The following is required for nursing students in the School of Nursing and Health Studies.
All BSN, MSN, DNP & PHD Students
Immunization Clearance
All students must submit documented proof of the following current immunizations to the Student Health Center.
- Hepatitis B
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
- Meningococcal Meningitis
- Varicella vaccine (Chicken Pox)
- Tetanus (Every 10 years)
- Tuberculosis (PPD) Screening (Every Year)

- Immunization Form - Nursing (new students)
- Annual Nursing PPD Form (continuing students)
BSN students in clinical coursework and all MSN, DNP & PHD students
FBI Clearance and Drug Testing

BLS/ACLS/PALS Certifications
The following organization offers certification for Health Care Providers (adult, child and infant) that is in compliance with SONHS requirements. American Heart Association
All students require Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification, including Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Acute Care students also require Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Nurse Anesthesia students also require Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Professional Portfolio
Nursing students are required to maintain a portfolio of documents frequently required by clinical agencies including:
- Current CPR card (PALS and ACLS for Anesthesia and Acute Care)
- Copy of completed immunization form
