~Current Programs &

Future Earth Alert Events~

Sunday, January 28th, was the kick-off of the RecycleMania competition, a 10-week, inter-collegiate recycling
competition sponsored by the EPA to increase interest in and enthusiasm for recycling on college campuses throughout the US.  For more details, check out the RecycleMania website at www.recyclemaniacs.org.

The Battery Recycling Campaign was a fabulous success last semester! If you live in Hecht, Stanford, Eaton, Mahoney or Pearson Residential Colleges, look for a box in the lobby in which you may put your used batteries. Recycling batteries reduces the amount of harmful mercury vapor that is produced during the incineration of trash, which can be highly toxic to local ecosystems.

The Cereal Bowl (located on the east side of US-1, just past Red Road), a new cafe with an innovative approach to food, has formed a partnership with Earth Alert. Its owners have generously donated food for our tabling events and are helping us form eco-friendly policies such as using recycled paper products in the dining halls when plastic dishware is unavailable and increasing the number of recycling receptacles in high-traffic areas such as the UC, food court and classrooms.

Weekly tabling is underway in the UC breezeway to promote awareness about current Earth Alert initiatives and key issues. We are tabling one day a week and are rotating between Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Sign up for a shift at our weekly meetings and come visit us!
