Physician Shadowing
(Yearly Event)
(At our meeting, you can obtain a folder with the Physician
Shadowing Form to request to shadow a physician).
This great opportunity is offered to all active, paid members of the
Microbiology Club. Selected members go to JMH or the VA hospital and
follow doctors on their daily morning/afternoon rounds. Some
students have even been fortunate enough to attend seminars on
subjects such as HIV transmission.
Peer Tutoring (click
here for the current list )
(Yearly Event)
Peer tutoring is for those active, paid members that are
Microbiology/Immunology majors. Those students who have taken MIC
classes in the past are paired-up with students that are taking the
class and need help with the material.
Picnics (Fall: Volleyball
Picnic; Spring: Beach Picnic)
About once a month, the members of the club come together for an
afternoon of fun and relaxation. We have a picnic and barbecue at
the apartment area sand volleyball courts on campus. Our members
have various interests and talents that come alive on and off the
volleyball courts!! The picnics are a great way to meet new and
interesting people.
Charity Walks/Events
(Fall: Multiple Myeloma; Spring: Multiple Sclerosis)
The club participates in a variety of walks and events during the
year. A few of these walks/events have been the Multiple Myeloma
Walk and the Multiple Sclerosis Walk. We also participate in
National Gandhi Day of Service in the fall with the University of
Miami institution.
Fundraising Events (Yearly
Event)
The Club partakes in various events specifically for raising funds
for the Club. These funds go toward Club T-shirts (which are given
to paid, active members), picnic materials, and annual
Student-Faculty Mixer/Banquet. These events include BankUnited
Center concessions, Kaplan Course Auction tabling, and Carwashes.
Annual Student-Faculty Mixer/Banquet
(Spring)
The Microbiology and Immunology Annual Student-Faculty Mixer is one
of the club's highlight events. The mixer is a combination of both a
social event and an award presentation ceremony. The student-faculty
mixer was introduced as an occasion for students to meet and
interact with members of the faculty outside the classroom. The
event is an opportunity for science majors to socialize with some of
the faculty from the School of Medicine. Club members converse with
professors with whom they have had, may have in the future, or just
to find out about the cutting-edge research the faculty is
investigating. Some of the awards the club distributes are; Officer
of the Year, Member of the Year, and the Faculty Recognition Award.
The occasion is a semi-formal to formal affair, which includes a
full course dinner. There is a lot of fun, food, music and mingling!
