Ocean engineering concerns engineering in the marine environment.
The ocean engineer provides solutions compatible with mans need for
utilization of marine resources on one hand and his concern for ecological
balance on the other. The largest structures ever known, fixed or
floating, now are fabricated at sea. Delicate and complex underwater
systems are designed to resist the harshness of the ocean environment.
Population centers and industrial developments are clustered along
our shoreline creating a number of problems which need to be solved.
All these aspects of ocean engineering offer challenge and opportunities.
The College offers an M.S. in Ocean Engineering. This degree is sponsored
jointly by the College of Engineering and the Rosenstiel School of
Marine and Atmospheric Science.
Applied Marine Physics courses open to undergraduate students are
listed under THE ROSENSTIEL SCHOOL OF MARINE AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE
elsewhere in this Bulletin.
