CLASS NOTES

1950s
Jack Eff, M.D. ’57, practiced pediatrics in North Miami Beach until 1977. He joined Meade-Johnson and Revlon Health Care (which became Rorer and then RPR) to conduct pharmaceutical research until his retirement in 1997. Eff now travels with his wife of 36 years in their motor home, and the couple is currently headed to the Canadian Rockies.

1960s

 

1970s
Luis T. Menendez, M.D. ’71, is a dermatologist in private practice in Tampa, Florida. He served as president of the Florida Society of Dermatol-ogists in 1991, president of the Hillsborough County Medical Association in 1993, and is currently an affiliate associate professor of medicine at the University of South Florida Medical School.

Andres J. Pumariega, M.D. ’76, professor and director of child and adolescent psychiatry at East Tennessee State University, released a book called The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Systems of Care, which he coedited with Nancy C. Winters of Oregon Health and Science University.

1980s
Steven E. Chavoustie, M.D. ’81, was selected for membership by the Alpha Chapter of Florida Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. Chavoustie was inducted in April at the Annual Initiation Banquet in Miami.

Karl Goodkin, M.D. ’82, Ph.D. ’84, is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Miami School of Medicine and was recently appointed honorary chairman for the state of Florida on the Physicians Advisory Board by U.S. Representative and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. The board will provide counsel to Congress on general health care issues.

Beth C. Seidenberg, M.D. ’83, has joined Amgen in California as senior vice president of development. Seidenberg also serves as a member of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s advisory board.

David Lee Gordon, M.D. ’85, was named assistant director of the Center for Research in Medical Education at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He continues to direct neurology training at the center and medical student education in the Department of Neurology.

Tamara Lynn Wettermann, M.D. ’88, completed the Maui Marathon last fall with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training
program.

1990s

Neil Gershman, M.D. ’90, is an allergy/immunology specialist for the Asthma & Allergy Associates of Florida in Fort Lauderdale and Plantation.

Edward M. Fidalgo, M.D. ’91, was named chairman of the Depart-ment of Obstetrics and Gynecol-ogy at Mercy Hospital in Miami.

Marcy Lee Hurewitz (Howard), M.D. ’91, practices rural pediat-rics and is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.


Mitchell Reiter, M.D. ’92, is an assistant professor of orthopae-dic spine surgery at New Jersey Medical School in Newark.

Nancy Chiang, M.D. ’93, practices at the Children’s Medical Center in Hollywood, Florida.

Jose M. Delgado, Jr., M.D. ’93, is practicing internal medicine in the Kendall area of Miami.

Catherine C. Madaffari, M.D. ’93, is in private practice in Jacksonville, Florida, where she moved after graduation.

Kevin O’Brien, M.D. ’93, is a faculty member of the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Robert Sussman, M.D. ’93, married Alyssa Turk, M.D. ’94, and they share an office in Boynton Beach, Florida, where he practices obstetrics/gynecology and she practices neurology.

Harel Deutsch, M.D. ’96, is a faculty member at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke in Chicago, Illinois, after completing his fellowship in spine surgery at Emory University.

Jason S. James, M.D. ’99, completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. He recently returned to Miami to join his father, Geoffrey N. James, M.D., in private practice.

Jason P. Stein, M.D. ’99, completed his pediatric residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City in June 2002. Stein plans to return to South Florida to practice at Palm Beach Pediatrics in Lake Worth.

Ronnit Hamuy Stein, M.D. ’99, completed her dermatology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan in June 2002 and will join Palm Beach Dermatology in Delray Beach, Florida.

2000s
Adrian Burrowes, M.D. ’00, currently practices with the CFP Physicians Group in Orlando, Florida, and was recently named the 2003 South Florida Resident of the Year by Florida Medical Business newspaper.
