First Student Assembly

The first student assembly took place on the first day of classes, October 18, 1926.

On September 17, 1926, Hurricane Kate hit South Florida. But just one month later, on October 15, 1926, the University of Miami opened its doors to its first students. Demonstrating one of the qualities it still holds today, preparation for anything.

The first class consisted of 561 students including Francis Houghtaling, known for fathering Iron Arrow, the highest honor attainable at the University of Miami.
