The
first student assembly took place on the first
day of classes, October 18, 1926.
|
On September 17, 1926, Hurricane Kate hit South
Florida. But just one month later, on
October 15, 1926, the University of Miami opened
its doors to its first students. Demonstrating one
of the qualities it still holds today, preparation
for anything.
The first class consisted of 561 students including
Francis Houghtaling, known for fathering Iron
Arrow, the highest honor attainable at the University
of Miami.
