The all-freshman football team won its first game
on October 23, and the name “Hurricanes” was
used for the first time along with the school colors:
burnt orange, Biscayne green and white. Orange symbolizes
the fruit of the tree, green represents the leaves
and white the blossoms.
Dr.
Bowman Foster Ashe was
elected as the University’s first president
on November 3, and the following year (1927) the
University News
(now The
Miami Hurricane) was released, along with the
first Ibis
yearbook.
